“Converting waste into possibilities.”
“Transforming waste with sustainability.”

Our history

The company has been operating in the market for more than 25 years. It was founded under the name M+H Plast GmbH and was specialized in the classical recycling of post-industrial thermoplastic waste by size reduction followed by melt filtration extrusion.

In 2012 the company was acquired by Dr. Marcel Sittel-Faraj who holds the position as Managing Director of the company since then.

A thorough restructuring of the company was implemented including the optimisation of the extrusion operations. Furthermore, investments into new equipment were made as well as the development of new manufacturing processes.

One of the main achievements was the development of a commercially sized process to recycle multi-layer plastic films, building up on his PhD studies in Melbourne/Australia. This technology was licensed internationally in 2015.

The growing use of carbon fiber in the automotive industry and its associated waste stream generation created new business opportunities. There was a clear lack of commercially sized solutions as well as markets for recycled carbon fibers. The company invested heavily in R&D, resulting in the production of a prototype rig in 2014 that was able to transform dry carbon fiber waste into freely flowing carbon fibers suitable for compounding purposes.

In 2014, this innovative idea, coupled with the multi-layer film recycling technology, earned the company the 2nd place in the “AC2 Growth Initiative” award.  This award is given under the AC2 Foundation, Growth, Innovation initiative, which recognizes the best start-up projects, taking into consideration outstanding success models for entrepreneurial growth and particularly innovative companies in the economic region of Aachen.

From there, the company redirected its core activities to commercialise the in-house developed carbon fiber recycling process. The innovative and unique process was improved over the years from the initial semi-automated small-scale process and manual material transport to the current fully automated industrial-scale process consistent of a fully automated material transport systems beginning from the carbon fiber intake to the finished recycled carbon fibre ready for dispatch. Thanks to partnerships with renowned companies in the global markets, the company continues to grow.

Our current conversion volume exceeds 1500 tons (3.3 Million lbs) of carbon fiber waste per year. The total capacity of the current plant exceeds 5000 tons (11 million lbs) year, leaving enough capacity for further growth.

In 2023 the company built a new state of the art modern plant and headquarters in the city of Niederzissen and operates under the name Carbon Fiber Conversion GmbH since May 2024 in order to reflect its core nature of its business.
